| Septic dye testing and well flow testing are often performed as part of residential real estate transactions. The septic dye test is performed by a trained technician and consists of introducing an environmentally harmless fluorescent dye into the waste water system of a home, subjecting the waste system to a given amount of water flow, and inspecting specific parts of the septic system for dye emergence. Visible dye on the soil surface usually indicates poor soil infiltration, blocked pipes, or other problems. The well flow test is also performed by a trained technician, using a measurement device over time to determine the amount of water that a water well is producing.
